Forest Cluster Doctoral Program

Combining Doctoral Studies with Work
The Forest Cluster Doctoral Program, FCDP, (previously called Forest Cluster Graduate School, FCGS) offers effective higher continuing education for professionals in the forest industry who wish to study alongside their work. It provides a channel of interaction between specialists in the forest industry, the support of the research community for working on a doctoral dissertation, and all-round practical support for post-graduate studies. When a company proposes the research theme for a doctoral dissertation, the result focuses directly on the company's needs.

The Forest Cluster Doctoral Program is intended for people working in research, specialist and development positions within the forest industry who are interested in postgraduate studies.
Applicants to the Program should hold an M.Sc., M.Sc.(Eng.), M.Sc.(Econ. and Bus.Admin.) or equivalent degree from abroad. The studies require tremendous motivation, genuine interest in scientific research and personal development, and practival opportunities to work on a doctoral dissertation.

Regular meetings, the support of a supervisor and peer group and the functional coordination of studies help students to pace their studies and make headway with their dissertations.

Doctoral studies will open doors to many opportunities
The structural change in forest industry and the industry's viability in the future call for a strong ability to undergo reform. Specialists working in the forest industry and their high-level and multidisciplinary knowledge will play a key role.

Traditionally, doctoral thesis has been required in the profession of a researcher. Post-graduate studies allow to achieve deeper knowledge in one's own substance. Besides an understanding of automation and processes, the doctoral studies develop interactive and problem solving skills as well as innovation - the skills necessary for professionals working in the forest industry of the future.
